Demian Bichir is one of the most recognized and well-respected actors in his home country of Mexico and the U.S. In 2012, he was nominated for an Academy Award, a SAG Award, and an Independent Spirit Award for his portrayal of an undocumented gardener trying to connect with his estranged teenage son in Chris Weitz’s feature A Better Life.

Bichir is starring in Quentin Tarantino’s much buzzed about upcoming film, The Hateful Eight, which will be released towards the end of 2015. Currently he is filming opposite Eva Longoria in Universal Pictures’ Low Riders.

In Mexico, Bichir is an Ariel Award winner for Best Actor, given by the Mexican Academy of Cinematography, and has received numerous other nominations and prestigious honors including a Medal of Honor for Merit in the Fine Arts, given by the Legislative Assembly of Mexico City.

In addition to his prolific film achievements, Bichir has amassed an impressive resume of theater credits and recently completed the starring role in the theater adaptation of the film Swimming with Sharks in Mexico City.

We are honored to have Mr. Bichir as our keynote speaker. Be sure to purchase VIP tickets if you would like to meet and enjoy drinks with Mr. Bichir personally!

Dear friends,

Over the past five years I have been blessed to travel to Guadalajara, Mexico with a team of some the best neurosurgeons in the world. We train physicians and educators, perform life-saving surgeries for patients who cannot afford medical treatment, and build bridges between Mexico and the United States. Every year we donate a week of our time, hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment and resources, and surgeries that bring hope back to our patients and communities. To make this mission possible, my colleagues and I have created “Mission: BRAIN”, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that has allowed us to bring hope to the lives of these patients and families.

This year I am asking for your help. I am organizing a Gala for Hope at the Baltimore Museum of Art and I have personally donated $10,000 on behalf of my family and dedicated hundreds of hours preparing for and executing the mission because I believe that together, we can change the world.

Will you partner with me to change the world?

Patient Stories

Javier

Javier is a 9-year-old boy who had a history of sudden headaches and loss of consciousness. Studies showed a tangle of abnormal blood vessels connecting his brain’s arteries and veins known as an arteriovenous malformation (AVM). These blood vessels can rupture and cause irreversible brain damage or even death; the Mission: BRAIN team performed a surgical intervention to remove the AVM and relieve Javier of his symptoms.

Javier is now successfully recovering with the love and support of his incredible mother always by his side. The surgery was a wonderful success and this resilient boy remains without neurological deficit. Thank you Javier for your strength!

Octavio

Octavio is a 2-year-old boy whose skull was previously removed due to excessive swelling from a traumatic injury. A replacement skull was personally customized for Octavio and brought to Hospital Civil de Guadalajara all the way from the United States.

The skull replacement surgery was a great success and Octavio has since recovered completely and been given the opportunity to live a long and happy life. We thank everyone who was involved in the care of this precious boy.
